BBC: Russia Court Considers National Ban on Jehovah's Witnesses
The justice ministry has already placed its headquarters near St Petersburg on a list of extremist groups. An estimated eight million people worldwide are part of the Christian-based movement, best known for going door to door looking for new converts. It has 175,000 members in Russia and 395 branches across the country. As the case began in Moscow on Wednesday, lawyers representing the movement submitted a counter suit, asking the High Court to declare its members victims of political repression and the justice ministry's action unlawful...
Bloomberg:Young Americans Are Killing Marriage
There's no shortage of theories as to how and why today's young people differ from their parents. As marketing consultants never cease to point out, baby boomers and millennials appear to have starkly different attitudes about pretty much everything, from money and sports to breakfast and lunch. New research tries to ground those observations in solid data. The National Center for Family and Marriage Research at Bowling Green State University set out to compare 25- to 34-year-olds in 1980—baby boomers—with the same age group today. Researcher Lydia Anderson compared U.S. Census data from 1980 with the most recent American Community Survey 1  data in 2015.  The results reveal some stark differences in how young Americans are living today, compared with three or four decades ago....
Religion News: Muslim Births Projected To Outnumber Christian Births Globally By 2035
Within 20 years, the number of Muslim babies being born is expected to surpass Christian births — though there will still be more Christians in the world. Muslims currently account for about 24 percent of the world population, compared with 31 percent for Christians, according to the Pew Research Center. But a new Pew study found that due to higher fertility rates and a relatively young population, the share of Muslim babies being born is growing.....
Lifezette: Gallup Poll Finds Fewer Democrats Are Proud To Be American
There has been a sharp drop in the number of Democrats who are proud to be American since the election of President Donald Trump. “Sixty-seven percent of Democrats say they are ‘extremely’ or ‘very’ proud to be Americans, down 11 percentage points from a year ago,” according to a Gallup survey released on Monday.  “Historically, Democrats’ patriotism appears to have been susceptible to considerations such as which party occupies the White House.” The report notes that “Republicans … and independents … are about as likely now as in 2016 to express such patriotic sentiments.”....
Washington Post: The Dogwood Tree—the Living Symbol of the American Spring—Makes a Comeback
....A generation ago, it seemed that the dogwood might go the way of the American chestnut, rendered practically extinct by a new disease. But here’s the good news: The dogwood tree lives on in the form of new varieties and hybrids developed to resist the disease as well as a newer and entirely different ailment named powdery mildew. Many of these introductions bring new ornamental qualities that offer additional reasons to reacquaint yourself with this tree.....

Steve Feazel: Abortion and Sanctuary Cities
Abortion can now be stopped in states that no longer want it to take place.  The way for doing it is simple, and we have our liberal-left friends to thank.  Many sanctuary cities and states have shown us the way. Sanctuary cites simply refuse to obey immigration law and will not turn over apprehended illegal aliens to ICE.  They don't like the law, so they ignore it in order to protect illegals from being deported.....

UK Daily Mail: Church Crisis In Church of England as Generation of Older Helpers Is Dying Out:
70,000 Volunteers Are Now Aged In Their 80s and 90s
The latest warning of the impact of declining numbers on the Church was produced by Dr Abby Day of Goldsmiths, University of London.  Dr Day said: ‘The prognosis for the Church of England is grave. ‘While elderly laywomen have never been given a formal voice or fully acknowledged by the Church, they are the heart, soul and driving organisational force in parishes everywhere. Their loss will be catastrophic.’  The generation of volunteers identified by Dr Day – and labelled ‘Generation A’ – are the parents of the 1960s baby boomers and ‘the last generation whose values are centred on nation, family and God.’ Their willingness to work without reward for the Church has not been found among their children or grandchildren.....

A church spokeswoman told The Post that senior church leaders vehemently opposed the change.....

SFGate: Employees With International Companies Getting Implanted with Microchips
The syringe slides in between the thumb and index finger. Then, with a click, a microchip is injected in the employee's hand. Another "cyborg" is created. What could pass for a dystopian vision of the workplace is almost routine at the Swedish startup hub Epicenter. The company offers to implant its workers and startup members with microchips the size of grains of rice that function as swipe cards: to open doors, operate printers, or buy smoothies with a wave of the hand.....

World Net Daily: Israel Takes Baby Step Toward Rebuilding Temple?
The project is getting high praise from Israel advocates for rebuilding the Temple. Rabbi Yehuda Glick, a target of an assassination attempt in 2014 for his Temple advocacy, said he welcomed the plan for a Temple Mount Heritage Foundation and has personally lobbied for its creation. “We need to state clearly: The Temple Mount is the foundation of the history of the Jewish people and of the return to the land since the beginning of Zionism,” he said.....
Thomas Burke: Co-opting Jesus' Name
The American progressive Left frequently decries the use of the name of Jesus Christ for political gain. I've heard this personally in conversation and read it in many articles, and the condemnation is often intense, claiming that co-opting Christ's name or actions to argue public policy, especially by those on the Right claiming to be Christian, is plainly disingenuous and despicable.....

California Considers Law To Regulate LGBT Lifestyle In Nursing Homes
The state of California... is considering a law that would make criminals of nursing home employees who use the wrong pronoun for a homosexual, lesbian or transgender resident. The bill also would require the installation of a “bordello” in those institutions. The battle is over Senate Bill 219, the “Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Long-Term Care Facility Resident’s Bill of Rights.” It essentially would impose the full range and reach of the LGBT agenda on nursing homes, including those run by religious organizations, in an in-your-face slap at the groups’ religious beliefs....

Snyder: What Is America Going To Look Like When Stocks, Home Prices Crash By At Least 50 Percent?
Have you ever thought about what comes after the bubble?  In 2008 we got a short preview of what life will be like, but most Americans seem to have come to the conclusion that the last financial crisis was just a minor bump in the road toward endless economic prosperity.  But of course the truth is that the ridiculously high debt-fueled standard of living that we are enjoying now is not sustainable, and after this bubble bursts it will be an extremely painful adjustment for our society. ....

Collin Hansen: Opportunity Amid Secularism
The rise of the nones and secularism, along with the decline of the mushy middle, poses a challenge that many American evangelicals have never before faced. In a culture that broadly reinforced Christian values, purity did not need to distinguish the church. And if we didn’t think of ourselves as outsiders to the culture, we didn’t need to reflect on how our dignified behavior would set us apart, either....

Four percent of millennials hold a biblical worldview, according to a recent study. The American Culture and Faith Institute (ACFI) published results of a survey earlier this month. The survey measured the core beliefs of millennials compared to older generations. The study shows that millennials hold more liberal views of things like socialism and same-sex marriage than older generations. But there’s another big difference. Millennials are much less likely to become conservative in the future. While it’s normal for younger generations to hold liberal views, they drift to the right over time. Not so for millennials. ....

Washington Post Caught In Big Bible-Bashing Lie, Tries to Quietly Overhaul Entire Piece
The Washington Post quietly rewrote a story about a Congressman using the Bible to bash poor people Friday, after a writer at the Federalist published a systematic break down of the piece that exposed major holes and mistakes in the story. Caitlin Dewey’s initial write-up in the paper did not include a single quote from the Texas representative she basically accused of using the Bible to justify taking food from starving people. The story also incorrectly referred to “2 Thessalonians 3-10,” and wildly mischaracterized Rep. Jody Arrington’s statements on the verse. While Arrington did reference 2 Thessalonians 3:10  in a discussion of food stamps, he did not, as the WaPo article suggested, use it to argue unemployed people should not be allowed to eat.....

David Prince: You Cannot Raise Snowflakes In Jesus’ Name
....Today’s parents often go to ludicrous lengths attempting to remove all risk from their children’s lives and protect them from any negative assessment. There are very real consequences in the child’s life when parents raise their children in this self-referential environment. Children are taught that they have a right not to hear anything they do not agree with, and when they do, they should take it personally. This mollycoddling of our children does not prepare them for life.  I recently saw a brochure that defined bullying to include teasing, name-calling, having your things bothered, rumors, verbal commentary, taunting, graffiti, insensitivity, gestures, and being excluded from friendship groups. If bullying means almost everything, then it means nothing.....

David Cloud: Ignorant Churches
“My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge” (Hosea 4:6).  Another reason why a large percentage of fundamental Baptist churches will be well down the emerging path in 10-20 years is that there is widespread ignorance about important issues such as contemporary music, New Evangelicalism, the Southern Baptist Convention, Reformed theology, reconstructionism, charismaticism, Neo-orthodoxy, Darwinian and theistic evolution, contemplative mysticism, and the emerging church.....

Economic Collapse Blog: A Broken America
Is this the beginning of the end for the United States of America?  It has been said that a house divided against itself will surely fall, and today we live in a shattered union.  In all my years, I have never seen so much strife, discord, bitterness and resentment in this country.  Everyone can see what is happening, but nobody can seem to stop it.  Politically, you have got tens of millions of people trying to pull America one way, and you have got tens of millions of people trying to pull it the exact opposite way.  As I discussed in a previous article, the term “civil war” is now being thrown around by some pundits even though nobody has started shooting yet.  We are a deeply divided and broken nation, and if we don’t find a way to fix things America will not survive. ....

Jonah Goldberg: Reaction to Pence Story Shows Traditional Christians Face Double Standard
....It's a very strange place we've found ourselves in when elites say we have no right to judge adultery, but we have every right to judge couples who take steps to avoid it. But ultimately, I don't think the important double standard is about marriage or adultery. It's about traditional Christians. If the Pences were Muslims and followed similar rules, as devout Muslims indeed might, I doubt there'd be anything like this kind of liberal scorn.....
Michael Snyder: 12 Signs That America Has Become A Politically-Correct Madhouse
What in the world has happened to the United States? We are rapidly getting to the point where political correctness is in danger of becoming our national religion. Of course most people would not even call it a “religion”, but for most Americans this unwritten set of rules shapes everything that they think, do and say. Many had been hoping that the spell of political correctness would be broken by the election of Donald Trump, but that obviously has not happened. ....

Sharper Iron: The Interconnectedness of Philosophy, Theology, & Worldview
A worldview is the perspective through which one views the world. By definition, a biblical worldview is derived exegetically from the pages of the Bible. Philosophy and theology have long been perceived as rivals in worldview, but if we define those terms lexically and through a Scriptural lens, then we find no friction between the two disciplines. In fact, the two are complementary.....

National Post: Witchcraft Returns!
.....The more marginalized and powerless we feel in the grand scheme of things, the more appeal there is in practices like witchcraft – especially for women who are still greatly underrepresented in positions with the authority to elicit social and political change. In this new era of magick, it’s never been harder to spot a witch. She’s not some lonely old hag slaving away over a cauldron in the woods; she’s your perpetually perky neighbour who’s a partner at a downtown law firm and lives at Lululemon on weekends. Chances are she may not even associate her crystal collection, weekly meditation sessions and penchant for home-brewed kombucha with the ancient art of witchcraft. ....

New York Times: With God on Their SideHow Evangelicals Entered American Politics
When Jimmy Carter described himself as “born again” in his 1976 run for president, most academics and journalists had a vague idea of what he meant, but few experts on religion could be found within their precincts. Back in those days presidential candidates kept their faith to themselves unless, like John F. Kennedy or George Romney, they were adherents to a religion historically disdained by the Protestant majority. Here’s a quiz: What is the faith of Carter’s running mate, Walter Mondale? (It is not Lutheranism, the dominant religion of his home state of Minnesota.) If Mondale were running today, you would know. ...

This is a theme that keeps coming up in the past year or so, as the election cycle brought the discussion of Christian political engagement back to the forefront of national discussion. Tim Challies: What We Lost When We Lost Our Hymnals
....If we were to go back in time twenty or thirty years, we would find that most churches had hymnals. They had hymnals because it was the best way of providing each member of the congregation with a copy of the songs. You’d hear it in every church: “Take out your hymnal and turn to hymn 154…” And then hymnals went the way of the dodo and we began to look instead to words projected on a screen. Here is some of what we lost along the way. ...
Stand To Reason: Always Ask What They Mean by 'God'
....It is my experience that many people don’t believe in God because they have the wrong conception of God. In fact, the god that they don’t believe in, I don’t believe in either. Their conception of God is really a caricature of God. As a result, they end up rejecting a straw man...Once we begin to grasp the nature of God, we are ready to investigate whether or not that God exists......
David Cloud: Lukewarm Churches
There is a shocking lack of passion for Christ, holiness, and separation from the world in a great many fundamental Baptist churches.  A large percentage of church members only give lip service to separation and holy living. Though they might “dress up” a bit for church services, in their daily lives, they look like the world, talk like the world, think like the world.   They are not cold; they are not hot; they are lukewarm; and we know what Christ thinks about lukewarmness.....
