Yahoo News: Mass Rally In Istanbul Over Israel's Jerusalem Measures
Thousands of supporters of a conservative Turkish party rallied in Istanbul on Sunday to protest measures taken by Israel in Jerusalem and show solidarity with the Palestinians. Israel had angered Turkey by installing metal detectors and security cameras at the Haram al-Sharif holy site in Jerusalem, known to Jews as the Temple Mount, following a July 14 attack in which gunmen killed two policemen. The move sparked Muslim protests and deadly unrest, and last week the Israeli government removed the detectors and cameras. But feelings remain high in Turkey, with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan saying the removal of the detectors was "not enough".   [LINK]
CBN News: ‘It’s a Massive Assault on Free Speech’  —Australian Leaders React to Proposed ‘Jesus Ban’ in Schools
Government officials in the Australian state of Queensland have introduced a policy that would ban Christmas cards, references to Jesus, and anything that could be classified as “evangelization” from public schools, the Daily Mail Australia reported. A recent Department of Education report voices concerns that unbridled freedom of religion has led to non-religious children being “forced” to entertain the Christian beliefs of their peers. According to these officials, schools are expected “to take appropriate action” if they find that students who receive “religious instruction” are evangelizing to those who do not.   [LINK]
Fox News: US, Allies Prepared to Use 'Overwhelming Force' In North Korea, General Says
The U.S. and its allies are prepared to use “rapid, lethal and overwhelming force,” if necessary, against North Korea, the commander of the U.S. Pacific Air Forces warned Saturday night. The statement from Gen. Terrence J. O’Shaughnessy, U.S. Pacific Air Forces commander, came after the militaries of the U.S., South Korea and Japan spent 10 hours conducting bomber-jet drills over the Korean Peninsula.  The training mission was a response to North Korea’s recent ballistic missile launches and nuclear program...    [LINK]
UPI: Ancient DNA To Help Solve Mysteries of the Canaanites
The Bible mentions the Canaanites, a people of the Ancient Near East, several times. Archaeologists use the word to describe a group of settlers and pastoral nomads living among the southern Levant -- in present day Israel, Palestine, Lebanon, Syria and Jordan -- during the late 2nd millennium BC.  But exactly who they were, where they came from and what happened to them remain open questions.  Those questions may soon have answers, however, thanks to new DNA analysis. For the first time, scientists have sequenced ancient Canaanite genomes after sequencing DNA material recovered from five Canaanite individuals who lived some 4,000 years in present day Lebanon. Researchers also sequenced the genomes of 99 modern Lebanese people, allowing...     [LINK]
Breaking Israel News:Israel “Peace Partner” Jordan Demands End to “Judaisation” of Temple Mount
King Abdullah II on Saturday spoke before an assembly of local newspaper editors and journalists, saying “he spared no occasion to put the Palestinian cause and defend Jerusalem before the world,” according to the Petra state news agency, adding, “There is no voice that speaks better than Jordan as we carry out our historic political and legal role to stop the Judaisation of holy sites despite the difficulties and challenges.” Most historians agree that the Temple Mount’s “Jewish” nature predated that of its modern Arab identity by some thousands of years.  The Temple Mount housed the two Jewish temples in Biblical times, with much archaeological and historical evidence proving ancient Jewish presence on and around the Mount.   [LINK]
Jerusalem Post: Netanyahu Justifies ‘Difficult Decision’ To Remove Temple Mount Security Measures
…Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu defended his decisions… “I am in tune with the emotions of wider society, I understand the feelings, I know that the decision that we made [to remove the security measures] was a difficult one,” said Netanyahu. “However, as prime minister of Israel, as the one who carries the security of Israel on his shoulders, it is my duty to make decisions calmly...  [LINK]

Trump's Reversal of Transgender Troop Policy Not Exclusively Because of Evangelicals, Moore Says
A prominent evangelical who serves as an informal adviser to President Trump and his administration says the president's vow to bar transgender people from serving in the military had more to do with his discussions with military personnel than the influence of conservative evangelical leaders.  [LINK]
Michael Curtis: Religion and Violence at the Mosque in Jerusalem
.....Once again, Palestinian leaders and organizations, and Muslim leaders in other countries have misused the religion of Islam as a political weapon to explain the unsatisfactory social and economic condition of their people, as well as their refusal to accept the legitimacy of the State of Israel. Religious texts promote an extreme political agenda.   [LINK]
Tim Jones: Modernity and the Secularization of Reason
Christ revolutionized the world by introducing the concept of the dignity of every person no matter where they stood in societal order. This led to the eventual creation of individual identity that culminated during the Enlightenment with Descartes' famous assertion "I think, therefore I am." In the process, reason unfortunately became detached from religious morality, which has led to the self-centeredness, solipsism, and narcissism we have today. Capitalism, with all of its successes, exacerbates these problems because there is little morality attached to its foundation in reason other than the force of law.  [LINK]
Jerry Sivnksty: Right and Wrong Motives in the Ministry
The American College Dictionary defines motive as “something that prompts a person to act in a certain way or that determines volition; an incentive. The goal or object of one’s actions.” Every child of God must seriously weigh his motives in serving the Lord. There are many examples in Scripture of individuals who had wrong motives  [LINK]
David Cloud: Knowing God’s Will Requires Surrender
....Knowing God’s will begins with surrender of myself as a living sacrifice to serve Christ. This refers to full surrender. A sacrifice doesn’t have its own will and plans. It is dead to self and alive only to God. But the large percentage of Christians surrender only partially. They reserve portions of their lives out of bounds for God. They say they want to do God’s will, but they aren’t willing to go wherever He leads and do whatever He wants, without reserve. They don’t put everything on the table before God.    [LINK]
Chuck Phelps: Congregational Singing Is Cool Again
Congregational singing has suddenly become cool (again). Just listen to Mark Dever, who testifies that, “The effect (of congregational music) on my own soul is electrifying.” Dr. Dever counsels pastors to reduce the praise band and the organ “by 80%” so that the voices of the congregation may be heard. After all, says, Dever, “We’re not required to play any instruments. We’re not required to be quiet and listen to somebody sing a solo. The only thing the New Testament requires us to do is to sing together.”  [LINK]

It's Begun: Fatah, Hamas Call for 'Day of Rage' and the Rocks Are Already Flying
Despite Israel's compliance with Muslim and international demands to remove security upgrades at the Lion's Gate entrance to the Temple Mount, Fatah and Hamas called for a "day of rage" Friday. Shortly after that call for violence, Palestinian stone-throwers clashed with Israeli police Thursday at the newly reopened holy site in Jerusalem.
Nick Pollard: Was There Really a Miracle at Dunkirk?
.....The film does not mention the National Day of Prayer, and only briefly refers to the halting of the German tanks, the storm that grounded the Luftwaffe and the calm sea that made the evacuation possible. Some might consider this to be another example of the elimination of God as an actor from history and politics. But that would be to miss the opportunity to reassess the perspective of the 'Miracle of Dunkirk', to reflect upon the nature of miracles and prayer, and to benefit from what Nolan’s film offers to this generation.
CBN News: 'Religious Freedom Is the First Freedom': Trump's Pick to Fight for Religious Liberty

Sam Brownback as the ambassador-at-large for International Religious Freedom.  If confirmed by the Senate, he'll run the State Department's office which promotes religious freedom through foreign policy.  He and his staff would be charged with investigating religious freedom violations around the world. He would then submit a report to inform the president about those violations.

Clark Bates: Like Books? Thank a Christian
It might seem like an oxymoron, but while a large portion of the earliest Christians were illiterate, Christianity itself carved out a niche for itself as one of the most “bookish” religions in the Greco-Roman world.  The sheer quantity of New Testament manuscripts available, with more still being discovered today, testify to this fact and provide a critical clue, for historians and theologians alike, as to how....
Fox News: Experts Uncover Evidence of Ancient Jerusalem's Destruction By the Babylonians
Archaeologists excavating the City of David in Israel’s Jerusalem Walls National Park have uncovered charred wood, grape seeds, pottery, fish scales and bones and numerous rare artifacts that date back to the city’s demise at the hands of the Babylonians more than 2,600 years ago. Among the findings, which depict the affluence and character of ancient Jerusalem, capital of the Judean Kingdom, were dozens of jars used to store grain and liquids. Many of them have stamped handles and seals that depict a rosette.
Christian News Net: Evolutionist Professor Says Parents Should Be Allowed to Euthanize Severely Deformed Newborn Children
A well-known professor and evolution adherent at the University of Chicago says that he believes parents should be allowed to euthanize newborns that have severe deformities or who are significantly ill.  “If you are allowed to abort a fetus that has a severe genetic defect, microcephaly, spina bifida, or so on, then why aren’t you able to euthanize that same fetus just after it’s born?” biologist Jerry Coyne asked in a recent blog post.
CBN News: Pastor Says Microchipping Humans Is Straight Out of Revelation
It's been making big headlines: The first American workers are getting injected with microchips.  The Wisconsin company that's doing it says it's the future, and it's all about convenience. But the idea is sparking opposition from both religious and secular circles, from biblical End Times concerns to privacy rights.  Pastor Dave Doyle from Hope Christian Fellowship Church in Iowa says the microchips make him think about the "mark of the Beast" from Revelation 13:16, according to KCRG in Cedar Rapids.
Breitbart News: Trump Announces Ban On Transgender People in the U.S. Military
President Donald Trump announced via Twitter that he is not allowing transgender people to serve in the U.S. military, a reversal of former President Obama’s decision last year to let them serve....Last year, former Defense Secretary Ash Carter issued an order that allowed transgender troops to serve openly and undergo gender reassignment surgery and formally change their gender in Pentagon systems. But he gave the military services until July 1 to develop policies to allow individuals who already identify as transgender to join the military. Defense Secretary Jim Mattis in June decided to delay that decision, giving the military service chiefs another six months to review whether allowing transgender people to enlist would affect the “readiness and lethality” of the...
Breitbart: Transitioning Transgender Soldiers’ Medical Expenses 14 Times Higher than Average
Critics of President Donald Trump’s decision to bar transgender Americans from serving in the U.S. armed forces are citing a 2016 RAND Corporation study that, they claim, refutes “the idea that transgender soldiers are somehow expensive, or that they undermine the morale and cohesion of the military over all,” as the New Yorker put it.
Lloyd Billingsley: The Enduring Lesson of Charlie Gard
..... As the ordeal of Connie and Chris confirms, parents care more for their child than politicians, judges, courts, and hospital bosses. In tragic cases like Charlie’s, the parents need to believe they have exhausted all possibilities to save their child. Despite somber proclamations by British judges, Connie and Chris were not allowed to do so. Connie and Chris have been battling a government monopoly, and in this system patients get only the care the government wants to give them. The British health service didn’t want to give Charlie the experimental treatment available in America. More important, the system also blocked Connie and Chris from taking Charlie to America, even at their own expense. He languished in hospital until, as the parents said, “the point of no return.”
Christians Won't Be Punished as Long as They Do What We Say, Rolling Stone Reporter Responds

CBN News: Big Pro-Life Win— Federal Court Protects Christian Doctors from Promoting Abortion

"The government is out of line when it attempts to force Americans to communicate a message that is contrary to their most deeply held beliefs," said Elissa Graves, Alliance Defending Freedom Legal Counsel.  ADF attorneys challenged the law which they say violates the U.S. Constitution as well as the rights of physicians.
Bolyard: Prepare Your Children NOW for Life In Post-Christian America
Post-Christian America is nearly upon us, so what are you doing to prepare your kids to live in an overtly anti-Christian culture? I don't mean an America where Christians are thrown into internment camps and tortured for our faith—though Jesus warned us to be prepared for persecution, so I'm certainly not ruling anything out. I'm talking about an America where Christians are a marginalized minority. Where we can't speak the truth openly and freely and where we may have to choose between our faith and our jobs. Raising children in this new kind of America is going to have to be different than the way most of us were raised. We grew up believing there wasn't anything we couldn't do.
CBN News: Jared Kushner's Bond With Evangelicals
It really is no surprise that as Jared Kushner entered into the “Russian Fever” limelight this week, he received plenty of, “evangelical love” from top Christian leaders. More on that in a moment. That relationship has been critical to evangelicals having a seat at the table....

The sad and perhaps inevitable premature end of life for 11-month old Charlie could come at any time.

Washington Post: Would You Let Your Employer Microchip You?
Melissa Timmins has a week to decide: Does she keep her hand to herself, or does she let her employer microchip it?  The implant is the size of a grain of rice. It would slip under the skin between her forefinger and thumb. It would sting for only a second. Then she could unlock doors or log onto her computer with a wave. Her flesh could hold her credit card, her medical records, her passport . . .“At first, I thought it was a joke,” she said. Timmins, 46, works in sales at Three Square Market, a Wisconsin company that makes vending-machine software. The offer came after her boss returned from a business trip in Stockholm, where he encountered Biohax Sweden, a start-up that aims to endow body parts with technological power. On Aug. 1, Three Square Market will throw a “chip party,” where employees can insert the $300 microchips, provided free from...
Christianity Today: The Rise of the Nons— Protestants Keep Ditching Denominations
Ask an American Christian what type of church they belong to, and you’re more likely than ever to hear the label nondenominational. The proportion of Protestants in the United States who don’t identify with a specific denomination doubled between 2000 and 2016, according to a Gallup poll released this week. Now, about 1 in 6 Americans are nondenominational Christians. The growing popularity of nondenominational identity is the result of two trends: the decline in the number of Protestants overall, as more Americans eschew any religious affiliation (becoming “the nones”), and shrinking denominations themselves.
Daniel J. Phillips: The Fatal Error at the Heart of Religious Liberalism
You have probably heard of the kerfuffle regarding “evangelical” writer Eugene Peterson. In an interview with religion writer Jonathan Merritt, Peterson verbally shrugged and said he’d conduct a “gay” “wedding” if asked, observing that unrepentant homosexuals “seem to have as good a spiritual life as I do,” and that the debate about homosexuality appears to be over – which he deems “a transition for the best, for the good.”

Christianity Today: Died— Haddon Robinson, Champion of Biblical Preaching
Haddon Robinson, the respected author and seminary president who set the standard for expositional preaching, died Saturday. He was 86...In his books, classes, and radio instruction, Robinson taught that sermons should be guided by the biblical text and focus on one idea or theme....Robinson has been teaching students about expository preaching for decades.
Daryll Dash: Haddon Robinson (1931-2017)
I received word today that Haddon Robinson passed away this morning. Haddon served as the the Harold John Ockenga Distinguished Professor of Preaching at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. He wrote Biblical Preaching, a classic textbook on preaching. He’s taught thousands of preachers in his tenures at Dallas Theological Seminary, Denver Seminary, and Gordon-Conwell. I had the privilege of taking my Doctor of Ministry under Haddon from 2004-2007. I learned much from Haddon as a preacher, but I learned even more from Haddon as a man. Haddon exuded integrity and humility. He’s one of the best men I’ve ever known...It’s tempting to write a hagiography when it comes to someone like Haddon. He wasn’t perfect, and he was the first to admit it. That, in part, is what drew us to him. It’s clear that Haddon walked closely with God, and as such he wasn’t overly impressed with himself.

Kevin DeYoung: Why I Love the Evening Service (And You Can Too)
....Every church I've ever been a part of has had a Sunday evening service. I've always gone. It's what I grew up with. It's part of my rhythm as a Christian, and I am immensely grateful for it. It can be a chore to get the whole family back for the evening, and at times with young children my wife hasn’t been able to make it. But we hope to instill in our family the same habits that have served us so well.
Albert Mohler: The Agonizing Ordeal of Eugene Peterson — You Might Be Next
Was he against it, before he was for it? Is he really against it now? The ordeal experienced last week by popular author Eugene Peterson was agonizing to observe, largely self-inflicted, and virtually inevitable. You should pay close attention to it, for you might very well be next. The ordeal began with Peterson, one of the most influential authors among evangelical pastors, responding to two straightforward questions about homosexuality and same-sex marriage.
Tim Challies: Control Your Sexuality
.....Sadly, sexual incontinence pervades the church as well. Even many men who profess faith in Jesus Christ are out of control in their sexuality. Perhaps they developed bad habits when they were young and have simply never replaced those habits with better ones. Perhaps they’ve let themselves slip and over time have allowed healthy patterns to be displaced by unhealthy ones. Perhaps they are simply apathetic about the whole thing. Either way, we see the fallout in churches ruined, ministries undermined, families wrecked.
David Cloud: The Earth’s Ecosystem
According to the Bible, God created the world as a delightful place for man’s existence, but it was plunged into death and chaos because of man’s sin. Thus we would expect to find two seemingly contradictory things in nature: harmony and chaos, delight and pain, glorious life and terrible death, and this is exactly what we find.  The examples of the harmony and integration of nature are endless.
UK Guardian: Israel Refuses to Remove Metal Detectors From Temple Mount Area
Israeli officials have said they will not remove metal detectors from outside a Jerusalem mosque, despite their installation triggering rapidly escalating confrontations with Palestinians. Amid a mounting toll of deaths and injuries in the crisis, Israelis and Palestinians are braced for weeks of confrontation, as both sides appeared to dig in to their positions. In addition to the metal detectors, Israel has also began installing sophisticated security cameras at one of the entrances to the compound housing the al-Aqsa mosque, known to Muslims as the Haram al-Sharif and revered by Jews as the Temple Mount.
Jerusalem Post: Arab League— ‘Israel Is Playing With Fire In Jerusalem’
The Arab League on Sunday stated that Jerusalem is a “red line” in response to massive protests against Israel’s implementation of metal detectors at the Temple Mount. The 22-member state organization’s Secretary General, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, said that “Jerusalem is a red line, Arabs and Muslims will not allow harm to it.” He added, “Israel is playing with fire when it tries to changing the status quo in the Holy City, especially the al-Aksa mosque.”

CBN News Commentary: Answering Modern Threats to Religious Liberty
As America becomes more secular, religious liberty is facing ever harsher attacks. Catholic Churches in Jerusalem Blame Israel for Muslim Violence, Deny Biblical Roots of Temple Mount
In the wake of the growing violence, the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem released a statement. Signed by the heads of all 13 Christian communities in Jerusalem, it condemned the recent escalation of violence at the Temple Mount, but did so in language that clearly favored the Palestinians and condemned Israel. The statement referred to the site by its Arabic names, disregarding any Jewish or Christian connection to the site.

Joseph Klein: Palestinians Oppose Israeli Metal Detectors at the Temple Mount
.....Palestinian terrorists have changed the conditions for maintaining the status quo by bringing their slaughter into the immediate vicinity of the Temple Mount holy site. Israel’s use of metal detectors, a common security feature at airports and at so many other venues around the world, will help deter the arms smuggling that threatens peaceful worship by members of all faiths. It is shameful that the UN lacks the common sense, let alone the moral courage, to publicly back such security measures as a restrained means to prevent more carnage and desecration of Jerusalem’s holiest site.
Christian Post: Evangelical Leaders Aren't Selling Themselves to Trump, Ronnie Floyd Says
Evangelical leaders involved in last week's prayer over President Donald Trump at the White House have responded to left-leaning Christian critics who claim that they are "bordering on heresy" and embracing a "pragmatism that could damage the Gospel" by praying for and offering advice to Trump and his administration.
Thomas Overmiller: Facebook Cannot Replace Your Church
At a recent Facebook rally in Chicago, Mark Zuckerberg suggested that the social network behemoth can effectively replace institutions like “churches and Little Leagues.” Through new breakthroughs in artificial intelligence, he aims to draw people together into Facebook Groups to serve similar functions, but in a more meaningful way. In this way, he envisions moving people away from actual gatherings of people, towards online groups governed by computers. As the pastor of a church, I find this idea both repulsive and out of touch.
Victor Davis Hanson: The Fifth American War
....Now we are engaged in yet a fifth revolutionary divide, similar to, but often unlike, prior upheavals. The consequences of globalization, the growth of the deep state, changing demographics, open borders, the rise of a geographic apartheid between blue and red states, and the institutionalization of a permanent coastal political and culture elite — and the reaction to all that — are tearing apart the country. Despite its 21st-century veneer, the nature of the divide is often over ancient questions of politics and society.
Ch Post: Facebook Blames 'Spam Detection Tool' for Blocking Catholic Pages With Millions of Followers
Facebook has restored close to two dozen Roman Catholic Facebook pages it blocked earlier this week, and blamed a "spam detection tool" for the error.
Salvation Army Has Its Bell Rung by New York City
…While parents fight on that front, faith-based groups are being assaulted on another. In New York City, the local human rights commission is charging the Salvation Army’s substance abuse center with “gender identity discrimination” for refusing to change their rules to accommodate people who identify as transgender. Their crime? Housing patients according to their actual gender.
Robert Spencer: Justine Damond Killed by 'Islamophobia'
.....Mohamed Noor is not a jihad terrorist. This was not a jihad attack. He is just a trigger-happy, panicky, reckless individual who held his job not because he was fit for it, but because of what he symbolized. And in the wake of his failure, Minneapolis multiculturalists aren’t about to reconsider their religion. On the contrary, they are doubling down. Minneapolis Mayor Betsy Hodges has immediately recognized — as authorities do everywhere after jihad attacks — that the real victim...is the Muslim community.
Trevin Wax: Before the Throne of Social ‘Likes’
....Whenever someone tells me they’re cutting out social media for spiritual reasons, I applaud. The cultivation of personal virtue matters far more than the cultivation of a public platform. Still, we recognize that the people leaving the world of social media are far fewer in number than the people joining every week. Our generation and the next will be increasingly formed — for good or for ill — by this constant connectivity. So, as Christians, we need to consider what our online interaction is doing to our hearts.
Jordan Standridge: Three Reasons It’s Hard to Follow Jesus
....A lot of us look forward to the comforts of heaven without any desire to lose any comfort on earth, but Jesus not only prepared His disciples for trials, He also taught His disciples to expect trials. We all know the following passage, but it is a passage that we should meditate on often so that when one of these areas of life is affected by the Gospel, we will respond positively and be used mightily...
Kent Brandenburg: Metaphysical Reality
.....Modern observation of the fine-tuning of the universe, the complexity of the cell, and modern physics point to a metaphysical reality. String theorists envision ten or more dimensions.  Quantum-field theorists speculate higher dimensions. Scientists are not yet certain exactly what dark matter and dark energy are, but many of them "believe" that we are detecting the effects of both, and they use dark matter to explain galactic motion. If someone can accept higher dimensions and dark matter, he should also consider....
David Mathis: The Most Controversial Claim Jesus Made
Of all the controversial claims Jesus made, one may be more incendiary in our day than all the rest: “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6). In our pluralistic age, these feel like little more than fighting words. But have we missed their full meaning in the fires of the current controversies?
David Cloud: The Earth’s Ecosystem
According to the Bible, God created the world as a delightful place for man’s existence, but it was plunged into death and chaos because of man’s sin. Thus we would expect to find two seemingly contradictory things in nature: harmony and chaos, delight and pain, glorious life and terrible death, and this is exactly what we find.   The examples of the harmony and integration of nature are endless.
