..;..The Constancy Of God In Uncertain Times   -Jack Wellman
In the news today, things are anything but certain, so how can we know and learn to trust the God Who never changes, even in changing and uncertain times?  In changing times, God has never changed. God cannot become any better or change His mind or learn anything new. God is omniscient, knowing everything there is to know. On the other hand, humans change all the time, and today, as in every day, the times are constantly changing. Some churches fit their teachings and doctrine to the times in which we live, but if anything needs to be changed, it is certainly not God or the teachings of the Bible. The Word of God is just as true today as in the day it was written. Even so, some denominations have watered down the truth in order to be more acceptable to the world...No one wants to hear “You’re a sinner and need Christ.” They’d rather hear “God loves you just as you are,” but the gospel that Jesus Christ brought was the gospel of repentance and faith (Mark 1:14-15). Jesus didn’t try to change it to fit the crowds of His day...
.;..The Good Guy With a Gun Who Stopped the Texas Church Shooter Was a NRA Firearms Instructor
....According to the story, his daughter ran downstairs to tell him that she had heard gunshots coming from the First Baptist Church next door. Willeford went to his gun safe and retrieved his rifle and that’s when his daughter told him that she had seen a man in black tactical gear shooting in the church.  “I kept hearing the shots, one after another, very rapid shots – just ‘pop pop pop pop’ and I knew every one of those shots represented someone, that it was aimed at someone, that they weren’t just random shots,” he said in an interview.

.;..Researchers Say Faith Helps Mass Shooting Survivors   -Christianity Today
No one expects their church to become the target of an attack—especially not the kind of spare-no-one shooting that took place Sunday at a Southern Baptist church in rural Texas.....However, recent research around mass shootings indicates that people of faith, particularly those who receive support from their churches and religious communities, fare better in their recovery.

Last year the Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation released their inaugural annual report on U.S. attitudes towards communism and socialism. .;..Fear and Faith Church Security Scrutinized After Texas Massacre    -Yahoo News
After one of the nation's deadliest mass shootings unfolded on their doorstep, pastors and parishioners around the tiny Texas hamlet of Sutherland Springs have begun asking whether guns have a rightful place inside their houses of worship.  It is a debate that is echoing across the United States as security experts and some politicians ask churches to consider a wide range of enhanced measures to thwart tragedies like Sunday's deadly rampage at the First Baptist Church.  Barbara Burdette, who knew the 26 people killed in the massacre and as well as the 20 wounded, is ready to see her church hire armed security, or allow congregants to carry their own concealed firearms for self-defense. "God is our protector," said Burdette, 62, "but I do still think that we need to have people with conceal carry."
..;.Arm the Churches, Minnesota Preacher Says    -Jerusalem Post
In wake of Texas shooting, Rev. Robert Bakke tells pastors to stop teaching weakness. The only answer to the Texas church shooting is for houses of worship to arm themselves, said a Minnesota preacher who also has a black belt in Shotokan karate. “This is not about gun control, rental trucks or fertilizer bombs. It is about evil, and you will never stop evil because it is in the world,” said Rev. Robert Bakke. “But you can deter a coward by letting him know you have plenty of firepower on the premises.”

.;..Cultural Marxism and Its Discontents     -Robert Knight
....Why do progressives promote diversity over unity, multiculturalism over American heritage, sexual anarchy over marriage, and applaud when people speak languages other than English?  The answer is that it ripens the field for identity politics and is part of the cultural Marxists' goal to radically transform America. Like President Obama's former pastor the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, some appear gleeful each time our country suffers a terrorist attack because "America's chickens are coming home to roost." We have it coming, right? They actually believe that America is free and prosperous not because of our foundational values but because other countries are a mess and it's our fault.

His mind is good but he's quieter these days. He can't see or hear well, but his health is stable," Franklin Graham, president, and CEO of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association said in a statement.
.;..God Knows Us and Yet Still Loves Us   -George Stiekes
....We should recognize that God had a very specific purpose in the creation of every person. He even chose the gender out of love for the person and one that would parallel the purpose of his/her existence. Do you realize that God made you unique. There is not another YOU in the entire universe and there never has been or will be. You are an original masterpiece and He loves you and is personally involved in your life.
..;.The Relationship Between Sin and Work   -Richard Phillips
Like many people, I can only handle a relatively small amount of information at a time...God seems to know this about us, for in the Bible’s creation account He keeps Adam’s job description simple. Man’s life in the world involves two basic poles: work and rest. The creation mandate to work is clear: Adam was given dominion so as to be fruitful and fill the earth (Gen. 1:28). God put the man in the garden “to work it and keep it” (2:15). Man’s calling to rest begins by imitating God’s own sabbath, when on the seventh day the Lord rested from His work (2:2).
.;..How Not to Be an American Missionary in Scotland   -David Robertson

Bear that in mind as you read the rest of this article. I am writing from the perspective of someone who wants American missionaries here and who believes moreover that we need American missionaries here.
..;.Child-Like Maturity and Childish Adulthood    -Rutledge Etheridge
What does it mean to have a child-like faith?  And how in the midst of their stormy youth are we adults to guide little ones away from childishness and toward the child-like maturity which Jesus commends as the only way to receive his kingdom?  We could begin by shoring up our understanding of “child-like” vs. “childish.”  Often without realizing it, and always to kids’ detriment, we adults tend to get those categories confused.

..;..Lean On His Understanding': Sutherland Springs Pastor's Last Message to Congregation Before Shooting    -CBN News
It is probably the worst news Pastor Frank Pomeroy could ever hear personally as a pastor. His congregation came face-to-face with a violent shooter who killed 26 people and injured 20 others.  Pomeroy lost his youngest daughter and many of his close friends.  Annabelle "was one very beautiful, special child," he said.  Pomeroy oversees First Baptist Church of Sutherland Springs. He and his wife were out of town in Oklahoma this past weekend but never expected to return to the chaos and pain that awaited. The white wood-frame church is considered the center of life in Sutherland Springs and ahead of the tragedy Pomeroy preached an encouraging sermon on turning to God when life becomes difficult never imagining what would happen just a week later.
.;..They Lost a Child, Grandchild and Great-Grandchildren In the Texas Church Massacre — Here's Their Powerful Response    -CBN News
Joe and Claryce Holcombe lost nine family members during Sunday’s horrific mass shooting at First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, Texas, but, despite the unimaginable carnage, the couple are remaining firm and resolute in their Christian faith.  The extent of the impact that the event had on the Holcombe family is both staggering and unfathomable, as the elderly couple lost their son, Bryan Holcombe, and his wife, Karla, in addition to their grandson, Marc Daniel Holcombe, as well as his baby daughter — and their great-granddaughter — Noah.
..;.How Common Are Church Shootings?    -Joe Carter
....In the wake of this tragedy, Christians are likely to experience two competing emotions—grief and fear. As Ray Ortlund said on Twitter, “The San Antonio shooting prompts two sobering thoughts. One, it could have been any of us. Two, it was us. In Christ, we are one.” The appropriate response to the news is to grieve. We should mourn the loss of our fellow brothers and sisters in Christ and weep with their loved ones. We can also soberly reflect on the fact that it could have been of us who were directly and intimately affected by the massacre. What we should not do, however, is let this act of terror cause us to be afraid of gathering with our fellow believers in worship. While it may be tempting to give in to the fear, we should recognize....

The global financial elite are already rallying around the project.
..;..Tempted to Quit Church? Here's Why You Shouldn’t-Matt Recker
Church attendance is dropping nationwide. Many think they are perfectly justified. They offer many excuses...The list is long and you can Google many articles that give you 15 or 25 reasons why people no longer go to church. Admittedly, all churches do make errors in dealing with others from time to time. They do sometimes hurt people, people’s needs are sometimes unmet, and we can all rationalize reasons that make sense to stop going to church. Nevertheless, the reasons above are all man-centered, and when man becomes the focus one can easily lose the desire to fellowship in a local assembly.Often, the best reasons to continue faithfulness to a Bible believing local church seem unknown, perhaps because they are God-centered and we tend to be man-centered. Believers must continue in a local Bible-believing church for His glory. The church is the only institution He began and continues to grow until the end of the age.

..;.Christians, We Need To Talk About Hollywood  -Tim Challies
These have been some dark days for Hollywood. I’m not talking about box office receipts or bad reviews. I’m talking about scandal. A few weeks ago, a scandal erupted in Hollywood. Since then, it’s risen, it’s grown, and it’s threatened to become a full-blown crisis that might disrupt the whole industry there in Hollywood. I think it’s important that we as Christian at a place like this start to think about our relationship to Hollywood. Christians, I think we need to talk about Tinseltown.
.;..Do I Love God More Than My Entertainment? -Desiring God
The base meaning of the word entertainment is “to hold.” It’s a term for maintaining interest. To entertain is to capture and hold one’s attention. And we naturally find the passive watching of television more appealing than labor. Entertainment holds us. But the on-demand access we have for a lifetime of captivating entertainment literally at our fingertips also raises really important questions about what is it that most holds my attention. Does God have any chance at competing for my attention with the allure of Hollywood?
..;.Mumps Makes a Comeback, Even Among the Vaccinated   -New York Times
If you think you’ve been seeing mumps in the news more often in the past couple of years, you’re absolutely right. “Mumps outbreaks are on the rise,” said Dr. Janell Routh, a pediatrician who is a medical officer on the mumps team at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. More than 6,000 cases of mumps were reported in the United States last year, the highest number in 10 years. Around 2010, annual cases were down in the hundreds.
.;..Forgotten Today, Remembered ForeverHow Heaven Rewards Earthly Obscurity     -Reggie Osborne II
“We should ask the question John the Baptist faced: Would I gladly fade into obscurity if it meant more attention for Jesus?”  Obscurity.  That’s a word I’ve thought a lot about....Certainly, it’s wrong to seek earthly fame for the sake of pride, but at the same time, no child of God should entertain the idea — even for a second — that he lives in true obscurity.
..;..Godlessness Is Reaching Epidemic Proportions  -Concerning the Times
Imagine the world with no rules, accountability, or consequences for evil actions. This image is one where people take a life with no remorse. It is a place where life savings are greedily stolen, women and children are abandoned, and even basic respect that was afforded to a mother and father is absent. This place of our worst imaginings is one fraught with lawless, heartless, and treacherous people who are concerned with no one but themselves. That would be a world where the concept of love is foreign, while brutality, slander, and darkness become the norm. This is not a description of total societal, economic, or geopolitical breakdown sometime in the distant future. It is an accurate analysis of the condition of our world at this very moment. This is how a majority of people are living life. These are the direct results of one fact: Godlessness is reaching epidemic proportions.

There are countless churches, ministries, and denominations that may not necessarily have labyrinths on site, but pastors and leaders encourage their congregations or followers to use them...
..;.Brass and Percussion In Church Worship   -Way of Life Literature
What does the Bible teach about how instruments should be used in worship? This is a burning issue today. Those who advocate the uninhibited use of solo instrumental ‘numbers’ and groups point to the Old Testament and say that God allowed all kinds of instruments and large orchestras to contribute a major musical element to worship. If God, they reason, is the same yesterday, today and forever, He must want the same kind of worship today....
.;..Why the Coming Resurrection Frees You from the Bucket List Mentality  -Randy Alcorn
The concept of a bucket list, a list of things you want to do before you “kick the bucket,” is entirely understandable for people who believe that this is the only life they will ever live, and that after they die they will no longer exist....But for us as Christians who believe in the resurrection and the coming New Earth, we should be the last people to think in terms of a bucket list.
..;.Isaiah 17 & Ezekiel 38 In the News -Todd Hampson
....Many prophecy experts think that the sudden destruction of Damascus will be the catalyst that triggers Ezekiel 38. These 2600+ year-old prophecies have not been fulfilled as of yet. Damascus, though ravaged by the Syrian Civil War, still stands and still has people living there. In fact, recent news reports inform us that Iran is setting up shop in Damascus and has been laying the groundwork for a highway from Tehran to the Mediterranean Sea—in essence building a caliphate with clearly stated plans to destroy Israel.

..;..Science Tells Moms to Prioritize Motherhood In the First Three Years  -Christian Headlines
....According to her findings, babies don’t have a central nervous system when they are first born. To make up for this, mothers act as a sort of “central nervous system” for the infants, especially within the first year of a baby’s life. Mohler summarizes another statement from her findings, explaining that each time a mother “comforts the baby, the baby’s own central nervous system is actually not just being comforted but even developed.”  This is due to the “love hormone,” oxytocin. The amount of oxytocin that the baby produces depends largely on the amount the mother produces. The more the baby produces this hormone at a young age, the more likely that child will be able to regulate his own emotions when he is older. And, as Komisar explains, the mother shares this with the baby through “eye contact, touch and gentle talk.”

Recently, a strong Christian friend, who owns a business here in my home state of Oregon, asked my opinion about his doing work that would either directly or indirectly facilitate the legal growing and selling of marijuana. I’m sharing my edited response to him because this is a subject that is relevant for many, and will only become increasingly so as more states legalize marijuana. My personal counsel to him was to stay away from any business or personal connection with the marijuana business, whether direct or indirect. It’s important to clarify that I believe medical marijuana is sometimes beneficial, and I have counseled believers in serious pain to try it when other alternatives have not worked for them. The stigma of marijuana use shouldn’t prevent someone from a treatment they would otherwise have embraced.

For most evangelicals in America, conversion is a central part of one’s religious experience. They are accustomed to hearing testimonies at church, on television, or in print. They would not be surprised, then, by historian Lincoln A. Mullen’s identification of conversion as a major American religious theme. What might come as a surprise, however, is Mullen’s claim that conversion is not unique to evangelicalism. Instead, he argues, it is perhaps “the defining feature of what American religions had in common.”

It is based in U.S. law, which only the United States Congress can change.”

.;..Why Violence And Looting Are Hypocritical Responses To Social Injustice  -Jack Wellman
Why do people protest social injustice by civil disobedience, such as looting and violence? Why are these hypocritical responses? Today there seems to be more protests in the streets about real or perceived social injustices than there were just ten years ago, and I think it’s good to protest social injustice when we see it, but when protesters turn violent, they are no longer protesters, but domestic terrorists.
..;.As Australians Vote on Same-Sex Marriage, Concerns for Religious Liberty Looms -National Review
.....Doumit worries that being forced to bake cakes for same-sex weddings is not the crux of the problem. She is concerned that the government will take aim at Christians’ rights to free speech more broadly. Although religious institutions are protected in the bill, Doumit contends that the Australian government has already targeted Christians over speech. She notes that Catholic archbishop Julian Porteous was investigated for possible discrimination because at Catholic schools he handed out booklets opposing same-sex marriage. His words were too aggressive, according to the person who filed the complaint, which was dismissed only after the complainant dismissed it.

Now, however, the sex-is-beautiful solemnity is being shut down almost overnight, and the shutdown is being achieved by the fair sex. Anyone caught intoning it in the present moment will be in danger of ostracism, especially if the intoner is a male of the species.

..;.God’s Love Generally Believed But Personally Denied -Matt Recker
God’s message through Malachi to a disillusioned nation begins with this comforting declaration: “I have loved you, saith the LORD.” Nevertheless, the people childishly argue back to God saying, “How have you loved us?” (Mal 1.2) This interaction causes one to wonder whether God’s love may be the attribute of God most generally believed but most personally denied among His people. It is easier to believe that God is love in some sort of general, impersonal way, than to believe, God loves me in a specific, personal way.

....Ken Ham wrote: “Statistical research shows that approximately two-thirds of young people in America are leaving the church by the time they reach college age – with very few returning.” Once they get into the secular colleges, their minds are being filled with deceptions they are not prepared to handle, particularly in areas like evolution, political correctness over against truth, immorality and so many other areas that conflict with the Word of God.  Are our young people and adults being properly discipled through the ministry of the local church? ..;.You Cannot Guarantee Your Child’s Godliness   -Marshall Segal
If Christian parents could choose to control one thing about our child’s future, we all would choose the same thing, wouldn’t we? Across every nation, every culture, in any generation, one thing rises highest on the prayer list of any Christian parent, dwarfing every other request we might make for our precious son or daughter: we want them to know, obey, and enjoy Jesus.
.;.The Emerging Church Loves to Drink    -David Cloud
Having read about 80 books by emergent church writers over the last several months, I have been impressed with the fact that they love to drink.  The book Listening to the Beliefs of Emerging Churches: Five Perspectives, for example, contains probably a dozen references to the joys of drinking. The contributors are Karen Ward, Mark Driscoll, John Burke, Dan Kimball, and Doug Pagitt. They meet in bars and taverns for theological discussions. They exchange beer-making techniques.
..;.The Five Choices of Declining Churches   -Thom Rainer
It's simple and straightforward.  Leaders of declining churches have five choices. Let me clarify. In theory, the choices are simple. But putting them to practice is not so easy. So when pastors or other church leaders ask me what they can do about their declining church, I ask them to begin at the high level before looking at a lot of details. One of these five choices must be made.

Christian Headlines: GOP Aims to Repeal Johnson Amendment in New Tax Reform Bill
The Republican Party is seeking to repeal the Johnson Amendment in their new tax reform bill. The Johnson Amendment prohibits nonprofits, and thus churches and pastors, from endorsing particular political candidates and parties if they are to keep their nonprofit status. Christians have argued that the Johnson Amendment puts a muzzle on churches and religious leaders and even violates their right to free speech. According to CBNNews.com, GOP leaders plan on getting the tax reform bill on President Trump’s desk by the end of the year. "Our goal in the House is to get this bill out of the House, passed on the floor by Thanksgiving," House Republican Conference Chair Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) told CBN News. ....LINK
Randy Alcorn: How Should We Approach Debt?
Why do I receive mailings telling me that $5,000 or $10,000 or $20,000 has already been approved for me and to receive it I need only send in the enclosed agreement? Why do banks and credit companies beg me to borrow from them, listing dozens of ways I could use the money? Why are people so anxious to lend me money? The answer is simple—they want me to borrow because they will make a lot of money from my debt.     LINK
Mark H. Creech: Can a Christian Be a Democrat?
.....I don't claim to speak for Rep. Brisson, but I suspect, knowing his love for the Lord and his unflinching commitment to a righteous culture, it became increasingly difficult to stay in a political Party that supports policies far removed from Christian teachings. In fact, I personally believe a lot of Christians who are in the Democrat Party should consider changing their registration.   LINK
Breakpoint: The Church of Harry Potter
....Their new podcast called “Harry Potter and the Sacred Text,” is described  as “a weekly church-like service for the secular” which seeks to draw morality and meaning from the story of the boy wizard with the lighting-bolt scar. It’s now one of the most downloaded podcasts on iTunes, and its hosts are touring the country, drawing droves of eager young converts. One student told the Post after listening, “I feel like I’m born again.” Secularism, according to the hosts, doesn’t “speak to [their peers’] hearts and souls.” Apparently, imaginary magic does.     LINK

Daily Signal: A Traditional Marriage Student Group Has Been Branded a ‘Hate Group’
....Love Saxa’s position is not a popular one, particularly on a D.C. campus of politically active millennials. State Lotteries Are an Exploitative Tax On the Poor
From the 1800s to the mid 20th century, government-run lotteries in America were not only recognized as immoral but were banned in every state. That changed in 1964 when New Hampshire—a state without an income tax—reinstituted a state lottery. Over the next 50 years, 43 more U.S. states and three territories would legalize state-run gambling operations to pay for government programs. . LINK

Jack Wellman: How Do You Approach A False Teacher?
What can we do when we know someone who’s a false teacher? What does the Bible say about false teachers?  The Bible clearly indicates that there will be false teachers in the latter days. In fact, they were even around in the days of the apostles, but false teachers are not something new....I believe the first step in approaching a false teacher is to pray about it. Ask God to give you a love for that person and a genuine care for their soul, but also pray for the boldness to speak the truth.  LINK
UK Guardian: Archaeologists Discover Mysterious Void Deep Within Great Pyramid of Giza
Archaeologists have uncovered a mysterious enclosure hidden deep inside the Great Pyramid of Giza, the oldest of the seven wonders of the ancient world. W.A. Wilson: The Myth of Scientific Objectivity

‘Shout ‘Allahu Akbar,’ because this strikes fear in the hearts of the non-believers.” Who knew hijacker Mohammed Atta’s parting words, discovered in his journal after the 9/11 attacks, would become a national punchline? The louder and more frequently jihadists around the globe shriek their signature battle cry, the more fervently multicultural apologists deny its meaning. Allan Murray: God’s Alarm
....Is there such a thing as God’s alarm? Yes. It does not just waken us from sleep, but in a sense it wakens us from the dead! God’s alarm  sometimes works dramatically quickly. This may happen under the preaching of the gospel, or a simple few words from a faithful witness, or from reading the bible, or one of many other means that God uses as His alarm. The person is dramatically awakened from his or her spiritual death. However, God’s alarm very often works very slowly: sometimes so slowly and imperceptibly as to be at first unrecognised. Yet it is the same work...  LINK
Wally Morris: Approving Alcohol, Prohibiting Marijuana— An Inconsistent Position
.....Christians who accept the consumption of alcoholic beverages will find it difficult to justify prohibiting tobacco and, particularly, marijuana. One common argument used to justify drinking modern wine, for example, is that Christians in the early church drank wine. OK, if that is going to be the argument, then how is it possible to prohibit legal substances such as tobacco and marijuana, which the Bible never mention? What is the basis for that prohibition? Often, the basis for prohibiting these substances will focus on health concerns or possible addiction problems. Could we not argue the same concerning alcoholic beverages?       LINK

We had numerous objections.  One of us admitted, “I feel like if I pray those words, I’m going to bring on what I’m trying to avoid. Bruce Ashford: The Manhattan Terror Attack and Islam’s Complicated Relationship with Terrorism
On Tuesday, a terrorist in a rental truck plowed onto a bike path and into a crowd in lower Manhattan, killing eight people and injuring at least a dozen. The suspect, identified as Sayfullo Saipov, 29, shouted “Allahu akbar” (“God is great”) after he finally crashed, and was found in possession of handwritten notes pledging his loyalty to ISIS.  This horrifying act is a reminder that hardly a day goes by without an Islamic terror attack somewhere in the world.  We are now familiar with the post-terror routine when a Western city is attacked. Government leaders note the need to shore up security and assure their people that every protective measure will be taken, TV commentators dutifully state that terrorism’s roots are not in Islam but in some other phenomenon. Is it really true that these terrorist attacks have nothing to do with Islam?    . LINK
