..;..Navigating Thanksgiving With Grace   -AFA.net
Thanksgiving will be here before we know it, and most of us will be gathered with friends and family to eat good food, watch football, and hopefully enjoy fellowship with one another. However, the Thanksgiving table isn’t always a peaceful, pleasant place.  If your family is normal, there is going to be a certain amount of tension or drama accompanying every get-together. It can be big things or petty things, but chances are there is at least a possibility that someone will say the wrong thing and someone will get their feelings hurt. Thanksgiving, just like any family gathering, can be a time of love or a time of strife depending on how one person acts.  Paul writes in Romans 12:18, “If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men.” Here are four ways we can put this into practice this Thanksgiving.
.;..Washington's New Museum of the Bible Aims To Inform, Not Preach   -Reuters
.....Museum backers say its collections will offer a scholarly, nonsectarian view of one of history’s most-debated sacred writings, following revision of the initial mission statement that called for it to “bring to life the living word of God.”“It’s not about espousing our faith,” Steve Green, a Southern Baptist who is the museum board’s chairman and president of the Hobby Lobby craft store chain, told reporters this week. “We just want to present the facts and let visitors decide.” Visitors at the Saturday opening will enter through 37-foot-high (11.2-meter-high) brass gates etched with the first 80 lines of the....
..;.Washington's New Museum Is a Collection Of Christian Artifacts Unlike Any Other  -The A1A.org
You could say Washington, D.C. is also America’s museum capital. And this week, a new collection opens to the public. Just south of the National Mall, the Museum of the Bible will welcome visitors to a $500 million facility that uses a mix of art, technology and lavish architecture to educate guests about Christianity’s sacred text. The museum is funded, in part, by the conservative Green family, owners of Hobby Lobby, a crafts franchise that....

..;.Three Convincing Reasons to Boycott Target This Christmas  -AFA.net
We realize that a great many American shoppers will begin shopping for Christmas this weekend and especially immediately after Thanksgiving. Target is hoping that you won't care that they allow men into women's bathrooms and changing rooms and will do your Christmas shopping with them. AFA knows that you do care. Here are three convincing reasons you shouldn't shop Target this Christmas:
.;..Four Ways Your Church Can Help People Simplify Christmas -Karl Vaters
A few years ago, our small church decided we weren’t going to compete with all the shopping, school plays, office parties and visits to Santa that were filling people’s calendars. We weren’t able to keep up, so we stopped trying. Instead, we asked ourselves “what can we do that no one else is doing?” Specifically, instead of crowding their calendar even more, how can we help people simplify their Christmas season? We experimented with several ideas. Over the years, we’ve landed on a few simple concepts that work for us.
..;.How Southern Baptists Trained More Disaster Relief Volunteers Than the Red Cross    -Gospel Coalition
Southern Baptists already have 65,000 trained volunteers; the Southern Baptist Convention’s (SBC) disaster response is so massive it financially trails only the Red Cross and the Salvation Army—and has more trained disaster relief volunteers than either one. In September, President Trump acknowledged each of “the big three” for their Harvey response.  Receiving presidential praise was a big moment in a big year for SBC disaster relief, which also celebrated its 50th anniversary and spent 500,000 hours tackling one of the worst natural disasters in American history.  But changing the volunteer structure will easily have the biggest long-range effect. “We jumped in the deep end not knowing if we could swim,” said David Melber, who heads up the SBC’s disaster-relief efforts. The new system has some bugs in it, and has caused some anxiety, he said. But responses have been positive enough for him to say that “without question, it’s going to work.”
.;..Christians In Australia Fight To Remain So    -OneNewsNow

The issue is being discussed now with a plan by Parliament to rush through a new law by early December when Parliament ends its 2017 session. ..;.Inside Chilling Religion Creating 'God Robot' a Billion Times Smarter Than Humans  -WIRED
....“What is going to be created will effectively be a god,” Levandowski tells me in his modest mid-century home on the outskirts of Berkeley, California. “It’s not a god in the sense that it makes lightning or causes hurricanes. But if there is something a billion times smarter than the smartest human, what else are you going to call it?”

.;..Four Possible Reasons Some Pastors Struggle Financially    -Eric Geiger
....While there are likely many reasons, I want to offer four possibilities—three of which place responsibility on the church for not providing enough support and one that places responsibility on the pastor for not being a wise steward. In my more than twenty years of serving in local church ministry and working alongside pastors and churches, I have seen all four reasons at play.
..;.Seven Ways Being Nice Hurts Your Church-Thom Rainer
Don’t judge me too quickly on the content of this article. Unfortunately, I’ve seen it again and again. Church leaders and members sacrifice the health and good of the church for fear of hurting one or a few persons. The body is sacrificed for the sake of a few members. We think we are being nice, but we are hurting the church. See if you can identify with one or more of these seven “nice” issues.
.;..The Reformation Is Not Finished  -Wally Morris
....The Reformation is not finished because new generations need teaching of the Biblical gospel and given a vision and passion for that gospel. This responsibility is always hard, particularly so today as secular culture subtly infects our thinking and behavior at every level of life. Many Christians know more about popular movies than they do about the Bible and base their choice of which church to attend on pragmatic reasons rather than....
..;.Scholar: ‘Human Dignity’ Was Rare Before Christianity -Intellectual Takeout
.....There’s reason to believe that human dignity could become a rarity again in a post-Christian world. Both the idea of human dignity and its concrete realization require a certain sort of worldview, which in turn requires reasoned support that isn’t always apparent. Part of the problem is that the global hegemony of the West, and thus of its better values, is gradually drawing to a close. China, an ancient civilization that never shared the Western view of the human person, has reversed centuries of decline and war on its way to becoming a superpower that could well supplant the United States.
.;..The Gospel According to the Gospels  -Mike Harding
....The way of salvation has been exactly the same at all times and in all places: by grace alone, through repentant faith alone, grounded in the merits of Christ alone. However, the content of faith increased progressively throughout Biblical history beginning with the protoevangelium (“first gospel,” Gen. 3:15) and concluding with the all-sufficient revelation of Christ in the sixty-six inscripturated books of the Bible.
..;.Scoffers Will Come  -Howard Green
.....The word scoffer denotes a person who is engaged in the act of jeering, scorning, or mocking. In this case, the Bible warns us about people who will be scoffing at the possibility of the Lord’s soon return. Please take note of the fact that the Bible zeroes in on a particular time in history. Peter tells us that these people will be around in the last days. Another key aspect of these people is the fact that they are following their own sinful desires. The Bible tells us that these people will mockingly ask, “Where is the promise of his coming?”

..;..Former Google Exec Says Artificial Intelligence is 'God,' Creates New Religion -CBN News
Artificial intelligence is already disrupting employment, recreation, the economy--and now religion. A former Google executive is so inspired by artificial intelligence, that he's creating its first church. Anthony Levandowski says AI should be seen as a God because it's smarter than any human being.  "It's not a god in the sense that it makes lightning or causes hurricanes. But if there is something a billion times smarter than the smartest human, what else are you going to call it," Levandowski told Wired.  According to paperwork filed with the IRS, this new church, called "Way of the Future," will focus on: "the realization, acceptance, and worship of a Godhead based on Artificial Intelligence (AI) developed through computer hardware and software." It goes on to say the church will try to "develop and promote the realization of a Godhead based on artificial intelligence and through understanding and worship of the Godhead, contribute to the betterment of society."

..;.Opioid Abuse and our Neighbors: Three Characteristics Our Churches Need-ERLC
We are in the midst of a crisis. Fifty-eight thousand Americans died during the Vietnam War. And 64,000 Americans died last year from opioid overdose....Opioids come in all shapes and sizes. Most overdoses happen because of taking heroin laced with fentanyl, a powerful synthetic opioid. Increasingly, users are taking carfentanil, an extremely potent opioid used as an elephant tranquilizer. They come in less suspecting forms, too. You know those orange pill bottles filled with little tablets of OxyContin, Percocet, Lortab, or Vicodin  as the pain relievers that helped you get through recovery after your back surgery or wisdom teeth removal, but they are opioids, too. They are dangerous and being pedaled on the streets of our cities.

The third annual Catharsis on the Mall, titled a Vigil for Healing, was held as a politically motivated incarnation of the desert Burning Man Festival from which it evolved.

.;..Perry Noble Admits He’s Disqualified from Ministry, then Says He’s Not Quitting-Pulpit & Pen
....Perry Noble has been removed from ministry for alcoholism (which disqualifies a minister in 1 Timothy 3:8) and for marital indiscretions, which led to his divorce (which also disqualifies a minister in 1 Timothy 3:2 and 1 Timothy 3:5). The man is not a husband to his wife, and cannot be a daily father to his children. He refused to leave the pulpit of other churches, at which point his home church had to reiterate to the congregation that he remained unrepentant and therefore unqualified to preach. To rebuild his reputation, Noble has hired a Hollywood Public Relations “crisis manager....."
..;.Why Are Christians Sometimes Unkind To Atheists?  -Jack Wellman
Why do some believers treat unbelievers in such a horrible way? Are they responsible for their unbelief? If we respond without love to those who disbelieve, we are breaking a command of God because we’re told to “bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you” (Luke 6:28), and “Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you” (Matt 5:44). If we understand the biblical doctrine on salvation, we’ll discover that, even though....
.;..Predestination -George Stiekes
There have so many disputes, arguments, and even church splits over the issue of predestination. It is sad when brothers and sisters in Christ divide over the issue of free will or election because both are taught in the Bible. The most important thing to recognize is the fact that salvation begins with God and not man. If it is in any way on the part of man, then we have reason to boast and suddenly salvation becomes a matter of works.
..;.Restoring the Discipling Church -David Cloud
Most churches have moved away from the New Testament pattern, beginning with hastiness in evangelism, carelessness in receiving members, and a weakness in maintaining spiritual standards and exercising discipline, and as a result they are falling prey to all sorts of errors and moving into an increasingly weaker and softer stance.  Following are some suggestions for moving a mixed multitude congregation to a discipling church position:

..;.Never Be Shamed From Prayer  -Matt Recker
A term called “prayer shaming” arose after the terrorist shooting in San Bernardino in 2015. Its users intend it as a rebuke to those who offer prayers after a massacre but will not take any political steps, such as new gun laws, to stop future attacks. One paper blared the headline: “God Isn’t Fixing This,” to emphasize that prayer is a way that people hide behind their prayers without doing anything. In prayer shaming, some crudely mock and curse out those who state the importance of prayer after horrible tragedies. People are saying in effect, “Don’t pray, do something! Prayers are useless and did nothing to stop the tragedy so why pray when you can make a law to prevent the tragedy from happening again?” After the Texas church shooting, we see this term emerging again....Nevertheless, prayer is doing something, even the best thing. We shouldn’t be shamed from engaging in the greatest privilege we have: “to come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need...

Two of the mothers said the clerk approached them and offered to temporarily keep the children while they served their jail time. The AP interviewed a dozen former congregants who said they had witnessed the three children living with the clerk being subjected to intense screaming sessions called “blasting” aimed at casting out demons, or being shaken or beaten.

.;..The First Amendment Protects a Dissenting Cake Baker, Not State Coercion -Daily Signal

.;..Do You Sleep Less Than Jesus?     -David Mathis
The Word became flesh and slept among us.  God himself in full humanity — body, heart, mind, and will — closed his eyes and went to sleep. And not once or twice, but every day. Of his thirty-plus years dwelling here bodily, God himself spent roughly one-third of that time asleep. He not only ate, drank, cried, and celebrated, like every other human, but he also became tired, “wearied as he was from his journey, " just as we become tired and weary. And it was no sin or failing in the God-man that he became tired. It was human. Yet it’s one thing to sleep, and quite another to sleep through a “great storm.”
..;.Do You Excuse Your Own Sin?   -Don Straka
We all know the deadly nature of sin, but we are often unaware of its subtle sidekick — the excuse. Excuses convert the seriousness of sin into a simple shoulder shrug. “It was just a mistake on a tired night.” No big deal. Not my fault. And just like that, we downgrade our greatest offenses against God into something light, even meaningless. Instead of owning our sin, we excuse it. Instead of killing sin, we explain it away.
.;..Why a Universal Call to Salvation is Essential   -Kevin Schaal
It is hard to believe, but there were some mid-19th Century London Baptists who accused Charles Haddon Spurgeon of having a “a second-hand ministry, deeply tainted with an Arminian spirit.”[1] Yes. Spurgeon was called a closet-Arminian by some of his peers. One of their problems with Spurgeon was his insistence on a universal call to salvation (called a universal warrant). The universal warrant places the “warrant” or condition for believing on nothing other than the commands of scripture. These staunch hyper-Calvinists, as Spurgeon called them, felt it was a theological error to call people who were not elect to salvation. Of course, that presents a dilemma. How do you know who is elect? Their practice was to wait until the penitent would show signs...
..;.Amos’s Prayer for the Nation   -David Cloud
In Amos 7 we see the power of intercessory prayer. God’s people need to learn from Amos and pray fervently and persistently in the most desperate, wicked times. When Amos saw the first two visions of coming judgments (a locust invasion and a great fire), he beseeched God to withhold judgment, and the Lord repented (Am. 7:3, 6).  There can be no doubt that a chief lesson of this passage is that prayer changes things.

Sean Parker, the founding president of Facebook, says the company was designed to “consume as much of your time and conscious attention as possible” and warns the platform could affect developing minds in negative ways. If a user posts content that garners likes, Parker said the founders knew it would “get you to contribute more content, and that's going to get you more likes and comments.” Parker explained that Facebook uses likes, comments and shares to create a “social-validation feedback loop” that keeps users addicted to the platform.

..;..Everything You Think You Know About Addiction Is Wrong-Intellectual Takeout
.....It leads to a conclusion that is simple yet profound: when dealing with addiction, environment matters a lot.  This might sound simplistic, but it challenges the typical view the left and right tend to take in matters of addiction. The right tends to view addiction as a moral failing: people are simply too weak to kick their habit. The left, on the other hand, tends to view addiction as a “disease,” an illness people are all but helpless against. Hari would seem to reject both views (or, perhaps, take a little from each). And he makes a compelling case.
