Free Beacon: China’s Xi to Assume Greater Dictatorial Power
China’s Communist Party on Sunday moved closer to reinstituting the personality cult-like leadership under Mao Zedong by ending term limits for current supreme leader Xi Jinping. The party announced Sunday the Chinese constitution will do away with the two, five-year term limit on Xi, the party secretary general, paving the way for him to become president for life. The state-run Xinhua news agency said the requirement for China’s president to serve no more than two consecutive terms was removed from the constitution.....LINK
Prophecy News Watch: Find Of Biblical Proportions— Proof Of Prophet Isaiah Believed Unearthed
The hand of the Prophet Isaiah himself may have created an 8th-century BCE seal impression discovered in First Temple remains near Jerusalem’s Temple Mount, according to Hebrew University archaeologist Dr. Eilat Mazar. “We appear to have discovered a seal impression, which may have belonged to the prophet Isaiah, in a scientific, archaeological excavation,” said Mazar this week in a press release announcing the breathtaking discovery.....LINK
Reformed Perspective: What About Jordan Peterson?
....The more I listen to Dr. Peterson, the more I like him and think maybe some genuine progress could be made with him from a biblical Christian perspective. He often exegetes material that most pastors don’t get, and applies it in helpful ways that I sense most pastors would be afraid, even if they recognized the application. And that kind of gets us to the “but” in this article, and it’s a “but” that every Christians needs to consider next to everything Jordan Peterson says and does, because it’s a very big “but.” In a nutshell, it is this: For all of his toppling of great idols of humanism in our day, Dr. Peterson’s thought, from their presuppositions right through many of his conclusions, is as thoroughly humanist, autonomous, and thus ultimately dangerous, as anything any leftist every said. Christians need to be aware of the depths of this problem in Peterson’s thought, and the implications it has for their discernment of his teachings.....LINK

Tony Reinke: Thirty Seconds Alone with God— The Effect of Our Phones on Prayer
.....The span of our attention is of great concern to God. Long before the media age brought with it profound changes in how we reproduced and multiplied pages in the printing press, and long before breaking news (and fake news) buzzed and beeped on our smartphones, God was always concerned with our focus.  Gospel faithfulness is about attention. ....LINK

Steven Lawson: Three Lessons from the Extraordinary Life of Billy Graham

Evangelist Billy Graham (AD 1918 - 2018) led a remarkable life.  Even the dates of his birth and death are remarkable.  He trusted Jesus Christ as his Savior in 1934 in a revival led by Evangelist Mordecai Ham (AD 1877-1961).  Graham has been known for his evangelistic work, preaching to millions, his books, personal morality, humility, fidelity in finances, opposing racial segregation, and always pointing people to Jesus.....Below are a few of many comments about Evangelist Billy Graham.....LINK
Jack Wellman: What’s The Significance Of The Jewish Wailing Wall Or Western Wall?
Maybe you’ve seen Jewish men praying at a wall in Jerusalem, so why do they pray at what is called the “wailing wall?” Anyone familiar with modern day Israel has probably seen Jewish men dressed in black, praying at a large wall. It’s called the Western Wall, but also called the Wailing Wall, and both names have a history behind them. The wall or Western Wall is made of ancient limestone, and is nearly all that remains of the Temple that was in existence during Jesus’ day. Much of Jerusalem was destroyed in 70 AD when.......LINK
Daryll Dash: Billy Graham Never Wore Skinny Jeans
.....Graham knew he was 76 years old, and didn’t pretend otherwise. He didn’t rely on tricks or gimmicks. Randy Alcorn: Will We Have Our Own Homes in Heaven?
.....When you’re traveling late at night and you don’t know where you’re going to stay, nothing’s more discouraging than finding a No Vacancy sign. There’s no such sign in Heaven. If we’ve made our reservations by accepting God’s gift in Christ, then Heaven is wide open to us.  Jesus knew what it was like to have no vacancy in the inn and to sleep in a barn. On the New Earth, He’ll have plenty of room.......LINK

Crossway: Did You Know That Charles Spurgeon Struggled with Depression?
It comes as a surprise to some that Charles Spurgeon had a lifelong battle with depression. His reputation as a famed and powerful preacher, his cheery wit, and his cigar-smoking manliness might lead us to imagine there could never be a chink in his Victorian Englishman’s armor. It shouldn’t be a surprise, of course: being full of life in a fallen world must mean distress, and Spurgeon’s life was indeed full of... pain.....LINK

Thousands of people from all walks of life — including a former president — filed slowly past the casket of the Rev. Billy Graham on Monday to pay their final respects to a man who reached millions with his message of salvation through Jesus Christ. A light drizzle greeted mourners on hand at 8 a.m. when the doors opened to Graham’s boyhood home, but it had tapered by the late afternoon when former President George W. Bush arrived with his wife, Laura. The viewing was expected to last late into the night for the famed evangelist, who died Wednesday at age 99. Samuel James: How Google, Amazon, and Facebook Shape Your Mind
Long ago I read the fable about a boy who discovered a magic spool of thread. When he pulled the thread, the “boring” days and weeks and months of his youth sped by as if they were mere seconds. Thrilled that he no longer had to experience the mundane, he began pulling on the thread more and more so he only experienced the most exciting, meaningful events. But one day, the thread ran out, and the boy—suddenly an old man—realized he had lived an empty, thoughtless, and ultimately meaningless life. While the magic thread had let him breeze through his years with no uncertainty, pain, or reflection, it had robbed him of those immaterial things that make life rich and valuable. Consider the possibility that in 2017, the “magic thread” goes by another name: the internet. ....LINK

A church in Pennsylvania has thrown itself into the nationwide debate on gun laws by announcing they will be hosting a blessing ceremony for couples with an AR-15 assault rifle. Jim Elliff: Why Do Some Pastors Deliberately Avoid Teaching Their Church Doctrine?
....I have witnessed a new “conventional wisdom” emerge. Simply stated it is the “wisdom” of attempting to circle in more people for our churches by unashamedly minimizing, or perhaps nearly eradicating, the restricting influences of doctrine. What pastors used to do (because of being poorly taught perhaps), they now do by intent, all for church growth.”....LINK
Michael Conn: Pursuing the Will of God
“Should I?” or “Should I not?” We’ve all faced situations in which we’ve pondered both of these questions. Should I take the job offer and relocate myself and my family? Should I pursue THAT young lady? …or that other one? Should the church shelter illegal immigrants from the government? Should I vote for one of those candidates?  ....These episodes, and others like them, vary from person to person, but they all prompt us to consider the will of God for our lives. ....LINK

Matt Recker: Three Powerful Reasons to Believe The Holy Spirit is a Person
Who is the Holy Spirit? One might think that the Holy Spirit is merely a power, a force, or a strength from God. However, it is foundational to our faith in God to understand that the Holy Spirit is a Person, the Third Person in the eternal Godhead. As a person, we should experience His fellowship and His nearness to us. While the Biblical teaching of the personality of the Holy Spirit can be developed along several lines, it might be good to begin by stressing that the Holy Spirit is continually referred to with masculine pronouns in Scripture.....LINK
Adriel Sanchez: Why You Still Need the Church Even If You Have Been Hurt by It
As a pastor, I’ve had countless conversations with people hurt by religious authority. One would hope that words like coercive, corrupt, and manipulative would never be used to describe church leadership, but sadly that’s not the case. Jared C. Wilson: The Danger of Gossip
The Lord loves a straight shooter. How do I know this? Because this is the embodiment of the wisdom imparted in Proverbs, including this helpful little gem: “Put away from you crooked speech, and put devious talk far from you” (4:24). Crooked speech is talk that isn’t straight. It is bowed, off-kilter, circuitous, meandering. There are a few examples we could name, including outright lying and even hypocritical living, but one of the most glaring examples of crooked speech that is practically epidemic in the church is the sin of gossip. ..LINK

Billy Graham, a North Carolina farmer’s son who preached to millions in stadium events he called crusades, becoming a pastor to presidents and the nation’s best-known Christian evangelist for more than 60 years, died on Wednesday at his home in Montreat, N.C. He was 99.  His death was confirmed by Jeremy Blume, a spokesman for the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association.  Mr. Graham had dealt with a number of illnesses in his last years, including prostate cancer, hydrocephalus (a buildup of fluid in the brain) and symptoms of Parkinson’s disease. Mr. Graham spread his influence across the country and around the world through a combination of religious conviction, commanding stage presence and shrewd use of radio, television and advanced communication technologies.  A central achievement was his encouraging evangelical Protestants to regain the social influence they had once wielded, reversing a retreat from public life that........

Richard D. Land: Thoughts on the Home Going of Billy Graham
I am sad for us, but I am happy for Billy Graham. The Apostle Paul told us that to live is Christ and to die is to gain more of Him (Phil. 1:21). I am confident the first words Billy Graham heard when he entered into glory were "well done, thy good and faithful servant."..

Public Employee Unions and the First Amendment  On Feb. 26, the Supreme Court will hear the arguments in one of the most anticipated cases of the year, Janus v. American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees, Council 31. Prophecy News Watch: Are Russia And Israel On A Collision Course Over Syria?
Russian politicians have been surprisingly mute on the Israeli airstrikes in Syria that took place on February 11. The quiet reflects the Kremlin's difficult position. Moscow has been cooperating closely with both Israel and.....
Michael Brown: Mike Pence Mocked For Listening To Jesus
According to everything I know, Vice President Mike Pence is not a religious fanatic. Rather, he is like millions of other Americans: a God-fearing, Bible-believing Christian. Yet large segments of our population have become so anti-Christian (and even anti-God) that a committed believer like Pence is now vilified as a religious nutcase.....

National Review: What the Second Amendment Means Today
The horrifying school massacre in Parkland, Fla., has prompted another national debate about guns. Unfortunately, it seems that these conversations are never terribly constructive — they are too often dominated by screeching extremists on both sides of the aisle and armchair pundits who offer sweeping opinions without actually knowing anything about guns, crime, or mental illness.  I have no desire to add to the cacophony of extremists and know-nothing “experts.” But seeing as how these debates inevitably revolve around the Second Amendment, I can at least provide some useful historical context about the constitutional rights to keep and bear arms.....

Martin Salter: Church Twice on a Sunday? Really!
I guess we might be somewhat unusual as a church. We put a fair degree of emphasis on the goodness of meeting twice on a Sunday...And we encourage our folk, where possible, to come to a morning service and the evening service. I know lots of churches have dropped the evening service, and I’m also aware that lots of new church plants are going for just one – often a 4pm service. And I’m really really not criticising that at all. But here’s ten reasons why I’ve come to think that having a couple of services a day might be a good thing.....
Owen Strachan: Moody Bible Institute’s Challenges and Scripture’s Inerrancy
In recent days, a furor has broken out over a surprising place: Moody Bible Institute. Moody is a hallmark of American evangelicalism, particularly the mainstream Chicago rendition, and has famously sent out thousands of graduates to the mission fields. Moody’s reputation is justifiably strong; it is a school that most evangelicals would instinctually trust.....
David Murray: Why Do Churches Cover Up Sin?
Over the past few weeks, many questions have been asked about why professional institutions like Michigan State University and the United States Gymnastic Association would cover up Larry Nassar’s crimes. But these events force another painful question to the surface. Why do churches also do this? Why do Christians cover up similar sin within the church? The same questions can be asked of para-church ministries and institutions, and all of what follows here is applicable to them too.....
Greg Livingstone: The Lord Is On the Move In the Muslim World
The last 27 years of increased harvest among Muslims has been remarkable! Christianity Today: Shootings, Grace, and the Gospel—An Interview with Pastor Eddie Bevill of Parkridge Church on the Parkland Shooting
Another tragedy has struck our nation, this time at a high school in Parkland, Florida. According to reports, it’s one of the nation’s deadliest attacks at a high school. My heart dropped when I heard the news yesterday. Another community, and more families, wrecked by violence. I reached out to Pastor Eddie Bevill of Parkridge Church, which first met at the school, to learn how churches are responding. Ed Stetzer: Tell me a little bit about the background of the church, specifically related to that facility. Pastor Eddie Bevill: My wife and I founded Parkridge Church in 1992, and we met in the facility for about 7 years, until we were able to purchase land and build our first building, and we are now currently located about a mile or less from that school, and still have a strong relationship there. We have several families who have students who go there because......

Aaron Earls: Preachers, Stop Trying to Draw a Crowd
Due to our culture’s obsession with being “successful,” many Christian leaders face a temptation to do whatever it takes to draw a crowd. Jared and Meghan Mellinger: Our Little Girl Has Cancer— How God Has Carried Our Family
In the summer of 2016, our two-year-old daughter was diagnosed with cancer. From that day until now, we have experienced like never before what it means to be cared for by our church family in the midst of trial. Jared C. Wilson: Growing Old Graciously
....I’ve seen men and women grow old well. And I’ve seen some men and women grow old not so well. I do not want to be in the latter camp, and I’ve determined to begin thinking about it now, at the relatively young-old age of 42. I don’t want age to sneak up on me, because that’s how one grows grouchy, I suspect. I may not be able to grow old gracefully—but I can certainly, by God’s grace, grow old graciously.”

Randy Leedy: Repentance Denied?
.....Does the Bible teach that God denies repentance to some who desire it? Hebrews 6:4–8 teaches that some cannot repent, and in Isaiah 6:9, 10  God even expresses His own determination that some will not repent, but the subjects of these passages manifest no desire to repent. Does Hebrews 12:17, though, present Esau as a man trying to repent but finding repentance denied him? Careful interpretation demands that we consider the immediate context, attend to grammatical details, and consult the text’s background in Genesis.....
David Cloud: The Divine Design of Wheat
The Bible says that man was made by God and placed in a world that was designed for his well-being, and the evidence for this is on every hand.  Consider wheat. It has been cultivated from ancient times. It is mentioned in the writings of Ur of the Chaldees, Abraham’s hometown. Ur’s farmers grew corn, barley, wheat, millet, lentils, chick-peas, beans, garlic, onions, lettuce, turnips, cress, leeks, mustard, and cucumbers, among other things. Sesame was grown to produce oil. Their farming techniques were methodical and complex. ....
Don Johnson: Evolution and Marriage
Recent reading reminds me how thoroughly our world is committed to Darwinism. We see its effects in theories on a wide variety of subjects in the human experience. One such is the subject of marriage. I suppose we should not be surprised, but most of my reading focuses on Christian themes and literature, so it is jarring when encountered....Nevertheless, the fact that these teachings exist and (apparently) have a wide hold in popular belief serves to explain to some degree the massive confusion in morals and marriage these days.....

In the wake of the horrific shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Broward County, Florida, news and social media once again lit up with calls to “do something” about gun violence. Despite a general lack of basic details surrounding the tragedy, many immediately (and erroneously) blamed President Donald Trump and Republicans for failing to pass “commonsense gun control legislation.” However, new information emerged Friday that appeared to indicate that both local and federal law enforcement agencies were aware of the shooter’s long history of concerning behaviors, and that the FBI might have prevented the shooting had it followed its own investigation protocols. Fox News: 'The View' Star Joy Behar Mocks Mike Pence's Christian Faith— 'That's Called Mental Illness'
The women of ABC News' “The View” took a shot a Vice President Mike Pence’s Christian faith on Tuesday, mocking the former governor of Indiana for talking to Jesus and even calling it a “mental illness.” It all started when they played a clip from “Celebrity Big Brother,” in which former White House staffer Omarosa Manigault Newman discussed the vice president.  Hostin declared that Pence is a “hated figure” in Indiana, claiming she knows firsthand because she attended law school in the state. “He’s not very popular at all,” she said. “I think when you have a Mike Pence who now sort of puts this religious veneer on things and calls people ‘values voters,’ I think we’re in a dangerous situation.”...Joy Behar then said: “It’s one thing to talk to Jesus. Paroikos Bible Blog: Can Christians Eat Sushi?
.....Gentiles do not need the Torah (defined as the body of laws given specifically to Israel as a nation) for either salvation or sanctification. Paul reinforces this theological principle in much of his writing, especially Galatians.  However, James makes clear there are certain transcendent principles wrapped up in the Torah that Gentiles need to be aware of and obey (v. 20): clearly, anything thats smacks of idolatry or immorality (porneia, all immoral sin, not just adultery--what a counter-cultural thought in the 1st century!) need to be avoided. He also, however, mentions "things strangled," and "blood." ....

They are hijacking the science of archaeology for what is really a religious battle.” Eli Dan, who served as assistant director of the Diaspora Yeshiva, a Torah institution on Mount Zion, which was charged with running the compound of King David’s Tomb after the 1967 war, has witnessed what he describes as a “long and complicated war” with the Vatican.....
